Threnody was a collaborative performance piece created with artist Amber Bledsoe. The piece, which lasted approximately 90 minutes, invited those attending to participate in a large scale memorial ceremony on the Versluis-Mitchell farm. Participants carried cast paper and wax stones one-by-one into an overgrown apple orchard on the property and placed them on a natural altar in memory of someone special to them. After all the stones had been placed, the creators, with the help of property owner and artist Mariel Versluis, lit the stone-shaped candles on the altar. Participants stood and watched the candles burn during a time of silent reflection, after which the candles were extinguished and the artists and viewers returned to the house for discussion and refreshments around a bonfire.
